Good Deeds Day 2026: Building Community Through Kindness

On April 12, 2026, Good Deeds Day, a global movement that brings together people from more than 100 countries, celebrated another year of impact. Since 2007, millions of individuals from thousands of communities, organizations, and businesses have participated. It is a meaningful way to show kindness and volunteer to make a difference in the world.

Hey Neighbor proudly joined and supported this global movement because it aligns with its mission to connect people, build trusted relationships, and create change together. Guided by the message “Love Where You Live,” the initiative encourages residents to get to know their neighbors, foster trust and belonging, and help shape the future.

Community Partnerships

Hey Neighbor completed five Good Deeds Day projects in partnership with:

● Deerfield Hills Community Center

● City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Division

● K-Land Community Cares Neighborhood Association

● District 4 Neighborhood Leaders

● Numerous community volunteers

Most volunteers received a complimentary Good Deeds Day t-shirt to wear during the projects.

Sustainability Environmental Projects: Neighborhood Cleanups

Neighborhood cleanups improve both the physical environment and the social connections within a community. They are not just beautification efforts; they also enhance safety, promote health, support the environment, and strengthen community cohesion while inspiring sustainable habits.

Deerfield Hills Neighborhood Spring Cleanup

Held on March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., this event took place at Deerfield Hills Community Center. Two cleanup crews worked along designated areas, including Deerfield Hills Road between Drennan Road and Springnite Drive.

More than 24 volunteers participated. Two dumpsters were filled with unwanted items, and cleanup crews collected numerous bags of trash, clearing ditches, curbs, and yard debris. Supplies such as trash bags, gloves, and grabbers were generously donated by the City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Division.

K-Land Community Cares Neighborhood Cleanup

This cleanup took place on April 9 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at 2551 Airport Road. Volunteers focused on Tahoe Boulevard and nearby business areas.

Although there were only four volunteers, they completed a large-scale cleanup, significantly improving the appearance of the neighborhood and fostering community pride.

Arts and Crafts Projects: Spreading Kindness

Three arts and crafts projects focused on creating encouragement cards for Harrison School District Two, including the 40 staff members at Turman Elementary School. This effort helped boost morale, show appreciation, and support educators in their important work.

Artsy Escapes at Deerfield Hills Community Center

This program, open to adults ages 55 and older, takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. On April 8, activity stations included arts, games, and crafts, with a focus on creating teacher encouragement cards.

A total of 30 adults attended, and many participants created multiple cards. The group was enthusiastic and eager to show appreciation for teachers.

Story Walks at Panorama Park

This unique program is designed for children ages 0–8 and their caregivers and takes place on the first Tuesday of each month. On April 7, participants engaged in a story about kindness, followed by an interactive walk where children collected materials to create cards.

With the help of caregivers, children completed thoughtful and creative encouragement cards. There were 11 attendees in total.

Community Arts and Crafts Event

This event was open to the entire community, with 11 attendees participating. Hey Neighbor staff, neighborhood leaders, and Deerfield Hills Community Center staff worked together to make the event a success.

Staff members Lelia Gibson-Green and Marilyn Dawson attended with their grandchildren, who also created cards for their own teachers. This event strengthened community connections and spread kindness through creativity.

Across all three projects, more than 51 encouragement cards were created.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A BIG THANK YOU to all Good Deeds Day volunteers! Your service was greatly appreciated. Also, a special thank you to Good Deeds Day Global Movement for the partnership.

Together, these efforts strengthened the community, supported local educators, and demonstrated that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference!
