Neighborhood Leaders Connect, Share Ideas, and Build Community
Recently, Hey Neighbor’s new Community Coordinators hosted their first meet-ups with Neighborhood Leaders in their districts. Each gathering looked a little different, but they all had one thing in common: good conversation and connection.
Ana and District 4 and 6 Leaders meet up at Seven’s Gate
Ana brought together District 4 and 6 Leaders at Seven’s Gate Taproom for an evening of bingo, beer, and plenty of conversation. Along with getting to know one another, Leaders shared stories about Tables they hosted or attended this summer and what’s happening in their neighborhoods. Ana loved seeing Leaders from different neighborhoods inspire one another, whether through stories of positive change sparked by a Neighborhood University alum or the simple act of introducing yourself to a neighbor.
Council-members Dave Donelson and Ken Casey speak to District 1 and 2 Neighborhood Leaders
Melissa met with District 1 and 2 Leaders over coffee and donuts at coworking space Summit 360 Suites, hosted by Neighborhood University alum Dwan Petti. Councilmembers Dave Donelson and Ken Casey joined the group to discuss current issues, and attendees enjoyed hearing their perspectives. A common theme throughout the morning was the importance of face-to-face connection, whether between neighbors or complete strangers. Leaders left with a good reminder that there’s something special about connecting in real life.
Joe hosted District 5 Leaders at Homa Cafe + Bar, where neighbors from across the district came together for an evening of bingo and conversation. The Roswell crew was the attendance champion at this event, including three women named Susan who all live in the neighborhood! Leaders learned more about Neighborhood University and 150 Tables Across COS, and shared ideas for future gatherings, including a district-wide neighborhood walk and a pumpkin-carving party. Joe especially enjoyed seeing people light up as they considered the next event they would host.
Maria and District 3 Neighborhood Leaders gathered at Seven's Gate on August 17th for a Social Hour to connect, share amazing things happening in our neighborhoods, and problem-solve challenges some of our neighborhoods are facing. This was a great time of sharing food, drinks, and wonderfully creative ideas. Neighborhood Leader ideas included surveys, block parties, walking groups, neighborhood directories, senior tea, seasonal word searches, and participating in local government. Some neighbors even stayed well past our two-hour gathering to keep the conversation going. It was a wonderful evening all around!
Four meet-ups, lots of new connections, and plenty of ideas for what comes next. We’d call that a pretty good start for our Community Coordinators!
