A “More the Merrier” Vibe

Kara and David Zimmerman are ready to greet their neighbors for a 150 Tables Across COS event!

Summer is the best time to be outside and to gather with people in the open air. It’s one of the reasons so many people have signed up to host an event with 150 Tables Across COS. When the setting is outdoors there’s no limit to where and how many can gather.

When I asked Joan Moon of Pleasant Valley if I could stop by the music in the park event in her neighborhood she immediately said, “We’d love to have you there! The more the merrier!” and then, “You should stay for the music, Great Bluegrass band today.”

Joan has been the President of the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association since 2018 and the summertime music in Westmoor Park is one of her favorite events of the year.

Three Airbnb’s border the park and Joan noted that the guests often join in on the neighborhood fun and comment about how friendly and fun the gatherings are.  The Neighborhood Association’s motto is “To build relationships and improve our neighborhood,” what more fun way to do that than with the backdrop of local music and peak views.

While the warmer months are ideal for outdoor hosting, the weather can cause a change in plans. But for Kara and Dave Zimmerman of Cottonwood Creek, a pop-up tent and a refresh of popcorn were all it took to keep neighbors chatting through the rain and staying longer into the evening than expected. For them, connecting with their neighbors is a joy and worth the planning. At their gathering, neighbors got to meet the new baby on the street, chat about what is growing nicely in gardens, and enjoy young chalk art talent. I left with good local eatery recommendations and some new friends!

Colorado Springs has such welcoming and vibrant neighborhoods filled with people who care about their neighbors. Here’s to getting outside and connecting with neighbors because…the more the merrier!
