Garden Ranch Gathers for Safety and Connection

Garden Ranch neighbors gathered at the North 49 Apartments clubhouse for a Neighborhood Café hosted by their neighbor, Marilyn Dawson. Neighbors decided to get together after a recent shooting in the nearby area. With coffee, compliments of Kangaroo Coffee, and a warm welcome from North 49’s community manager, Nina Hughes, the event created space for neighbors to connect, share concerns, and build relationships.

In attendance were Councilmember Dave Donelson, CSPD District Commander Brian Cummings, and Crime Prevention Officer MJ Thomson, along with representatives from Remnant Church and Hey Neighbor’s Lelia Gibson-Green. Conversations focused on safety, community connection, and future collaboration. CSPD addressed recent safety concerns and offered ideas such as forming a neighborhood watch and connecting with the city’s HOT team. A highlight of the morning came from a seven-year-old resident who was especially eager to meet and talk with the police officers, reminding everyone that community-building starts young.

Neighbors left with a shared vision to stay connected and engaged. Ideas included creating a neighborhood newsletter, hosting fun events with local businesses, and starting a Facebook group for Garden Ranch residents. North 49 Apartments has even offered to host future gatherings, continuing the momentum sparked by this meaningful conversation!
