🌟Neighbor Spotlight: Cherry Hill

One of the first steps to being a great neighbor is simply keeping your eyes open to what’s happening in your area and to those who live close by. The step beyond that is responding to changes with innovative ideas and care. That’s what Cherry Hill does in the Vista Grande neighborhood, and it’s what inspired Marylin Dawson, our Districts 1 and 2 Community Coordinator, to nominate her for Neighbor of the Month.

Cherry has lived in Colorado Springs for over 25 years. Her path to being a changemaker began when she was young, continued during her time serving in the Army, and then in 1995 took to the air waves when she started a radio show called Military Mama on the Mic. She offered daily encouragement to wives with deployed spouses. She continues this kind of encouragement today, offering an uplifting ‘word of the day’ every morning. Marilyn says that Cherry “works tirelessly for the community,” and this proved out even as she earned a doctorate, raised six children, and became a pastor. In 2012 Dr. Cherry Hill founded Remnant Church, a community of about 30 people, serving the Vista Grande neighborhood.

Before the summer of 2025 rolled around, Pastor Cherry connected with a neighborhood in Peyton, where children have a need for food in the summertime when school is out. She partnered with another pastor there to provide meals to 125 families through the Summer Food Program. At Christmas, Remnant sponsors Prayers and Presents, where families can pick out gifts for the children. And when Pastor Cherry found out that the Safeway in their neighborhood was closing, she started a food distribution center. She hopes to bring food programs to her neighborhood, as well as an after-school program (she was an educator for 14 years; it’s a passion!). She has ambitious goals for helping more families and kids in 2026, and loves to remind people, “you’re gonna make it, don’t quit.”

Marilyn says that Cherry “makes me feel purposeful,” and indeed one of Pastor Cherry’s favorite things to tell people is that “if you’re breathing, you have purpose.” Marilyn’s hopes for her neighborhood include a more connected and cohesive community, where everybody knows somebody. She and Pastor Cherry are working on this, one person at a time, in Vista Grande.

Pastor Cherry’s parting words to her neighbors: “Jesus loves you, I love you, you have such a phenomenal purpose; make 2026 something great!”
