🌟Neighbor Spotlight: Meet Marion Cerazzi!
Sometimes, meaningful connections begin with something as simple as a walk. Marion Cerazzi and Joan Stang were each walking alone in their neighborhood when chance brought them together. That walk led to a friendship, walking companionship, and the exchange of contact information. Inspired by Marion’s character and service, Joan nominated her for Hey Neighbor’s “Nominate a Neighbor” recognition, sharing that Marion “truly exudes what it is to be a volunteer and to build community while serving others—Marion not only has a brain, but a heart.”
Marion holds a PhD and brings a humble, calm energy to everything she does. A molecular biologist by training, she has spent her career researching how cells work, with a background in viruses and advising on FDA approvals for drugs and healthcare. During the COVID pandemic, Marion helped people better understand what was happening by sharing reliable, science-based resources, easing fears, and empowering others to make informed healthcare decisions. Though semi-retired, she continues her work as a biotech consultant for a German company. Marion credits her lifelong love of science to a childhood chemistry and microscope set that sparked her curiosity at an early age.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marion is deeply committed to serving her community. She has taught at the community college level and volunteers throughout Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. As Joan describes it, “She does not talk about herself—she just goes out, rolls up her sleeves, and makes a difference.”
Marion volunteers with the Humane Society, where her love for animals and people shines. She recalls one family being so grateful for her help in finding the perfect pet that they chose to donate $1,000 to the Humane Society instead of exchanging Christmas gifts.
Her community involvement is extensive. Marion is a past president of the Manitou Garden Club and recently was appointed as a volunteer board member to the Open Space Advisory Committee while planning the Migration Fire, and trail and infrastructure improvements. She participates in the Manitou Book Club, which raises funds for charitable organizations, and volunteers at the Manitou Food Pantry for several months each year alongside friends.
A certified Master Gardener and Nursery Educator, Marion uses her expertise to educate the community on growing environments, soil health, insect challenges, plant research, and selecting the right plants for success. She previously served as a Master Gardener in New Jersey as well. Her passion for plants began with her father, who shared his love of flowers and gardening, including a cherished rock garden.
Always eager to learn and connect, Marion attended the Manitou Springs Citizen's Academy, similar to the Hey Neighbor's Neighborhood University this spring (2025) as a way to learn how she could further engage in service with her community. Marion looks forward to taking Spanish classes so she can better communicate with and assist more members of the community. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family.
Marion Cerazzi’s story is a powerful reminder that simple moments—like a walk through the neighborhood—can lead to lasting friendships and a life dedicated to serving others.
