Neighborhood University’s 2026 Spring Cohort Has Sprung!
The Spring 2026 cohort of Neighborhood University is officially underway, and it is already clear that this group brings an incredible amount of energy, curiosity, and positivity. From the moment participants walked into the room, there was a shared eagerness to connect with one another and learn how they can make a meaningful difference in their neighborhoods.
We kicked off orientation with an icebreaker designed to remind us of something simple but powerful: we often have far more in common than what divides us. As participants shared stories and discovered unexpected connections, the room quickly filled with laughter, conversation, and a sense of possibility. It was the perfect way to begin a journey focused on building relationships and strengthening community.
Participants also received an overview of what they will explore throughout the NU program. Over the coming weeks, they will learn how Colorado Springs works, how local decisions are made, and how neighbors can take part in shaping the future of their communities. Just as important, they will learn how to apply this knowledge to creating positive change right where they live.
A highlight of the evening was a visit from Hey Neighbor’s three Community Coordinators, who stopped by to introduce themselves and welcome the new cohort. Each coordinator shared inspiring examples of neighbor led action from across the city. From small gatherings to larger community projects, their stories showed how everyday residents are already making a real impact in their neighborhoods.
Their message was clear and encouraging: when people use their talents, interests, and strengths to care for the places where they live, meaningful change is possible. You do not need to be an expert or hold a formal position to make a difference. You simply need to start where you are and invite others along the way.
As the Spring cohort begins this journey together, one thing is already evident. This group is ready to learn, connect, and take action. We are excited to see the ideas, partnerships, and neighborhood initiatives that will grow from this vibrant community of leaders.
