Summer Fun and Neighborly Connections at MSRNA’s Annual Summer Fest

Sunshine, smiles, and a whole lot of community spirit took over North Shooks Run Park on Saturday, August 8, as the Middle Shooks Run Neighborhood Association (MSRNA) hosted its annual Summer Fest!
By bringing together local bands, food trucks, and vendors, MSRNA created a fun, free event where neighbors could relax, meet one another, and enjoy time together. Hey Neighbor was delighted to be invited as part of the neighborhood, and Community Coordinator Maria Cordova was happy to spend the day in the park.
Maria spent her time connecting with residents to share ideas and resources on how to build stronger ties with the people living right next door. These conversations even reached across state lines; Maria spoke with a visitor from Arkansas who works with a nonprofit similar to Hey Neighbor. This visitor was thrilled to see that their family lives in such a welcoming and vibrant neighborhood.
The park was full of energy and activity. Flip Shack provided mats and a tumbling area for kids to play, while a free temporary tattoo booth hosted by Amy with MSRNA offered colorful designs for both children and adults. The air was filled with the sounds of a fantastic local band playing familiar cover songs, and refreshing free lemonade kept everyone cool.
Many neighbors brought their dogs along, which provided an instant and easy way for people to start conversations and connect. Seeing neighbors meet for the very first time and watching others happily catch up was a true joy. Summer Fest was a wonderful reminder of the strong sense of community that grows when people come together.
