Third Time’s the Charm: Stratton Meadows Neighbors Transform Another Yard!
On a sunny Sunday morning in June, neighbors in Stratton Meadows gathered once again for their third planting party—proving that when community and purpose come together, beautiful things grow!
This time, volunteers came together to help a young couple new to the neighborhood feel right at home. While the tradition of welcoming new neighbors with baked goods may be fading, Stratton Meadows has embraced something even sweeter: a living landscape, designed to nourish both people and pollinators.
Thanks to our continued partnership with the Fountain Creek Watershed District, we were able to provide this transformation at no cost to the homeowners. The team got started at 8:30 am, digging and shaping the land to create a rain garden that captures roof runoff from the home’s downspouts—making the most of every drop of water. By the end of the day, more than 65 holes had been dug, filled with edible, water-wise, and pollinator-friendly plants, and topped with mulch to lock in moisture.
Just as the final tools were being packed away around 2:00 pm, the sky rumbled and a light rain began to fall—nature’s own blessing for a job well done.
This project wasn’t just about planting a garden; it was about planting relationships and growing neighborhood resilience and pride. With each planting party, we’re not just growing food and flowers—we’re growing community.
Before …
After!
